The light is the thing that your cameras for photography utilise so that you can give you those powerful images each time you are taking pics of events, people and places. It is the magic where your visuals come to life. Light is available in natural, manual or artificial. By just having the principles of using the light you will be extra improve in adjusting the right settings in your Digital slr.

Light also comes in different colours that greatly affects the tone or atmosphere of each image you take in different ways. There are two common forms of lights, the hard light and the strong light. We will briefly go over each of them.

The hard light

The hard light is normally characterized having a high contrast that provides a sharp edge over the shadows within your photographs.  Any source of light that concentrates the amount of light in its center gives off a hard light. The perfect example for this is definitely a lamp light. The bulb transforms electricity into light power and therefore spreading the lighting in a very huge room or area. 

The soft light

Perhaps you have seen your kids play with a flash light then they cover within the bed sheets and observe the light of the flash light is tone down? That’s an example of a soft light, it’s dim and lower in contrast. Typically a light source that has large apparent emits soft lights. You’ll be able to hardly see a shadow when taking shots using soft lights then when you’re using  the wrong angle you images get blurry without a doubt.

Transmitted light

This is where you may capture the primary source of light of an image i.e. the sundown. With the correct combination of settings with your aperture, ISO and shutter speed with a nikon d5100 or other Slr camera. you will make modifications with the photographs using transmitted lights.

Reflected light

If your taking pictures say, in a window usually you will notice part of the subject’s surface is exposed to the light and the other part is coated with shadow. To be able to stabilize the surface of your subject you’ll need a reflector (commercialized or white boards) to reflect the light to the other surface to fair down the tone of the photos.

In Digital photography there’s what photography call “the magic hour” this is when the 4 kinds of lights are combined all together simultaneously.  This usually happens during sunsets and sunrises either at the sea side, at the hill or at the mountains.  Now you are aware exactly how essential it truly is to grasp the light the next thing you need to conduct is go out there and start exploring!
